Girls on the Run of Nebraska

About This Organization

Girls on the Run of Nebraska provides after-school programming that combines exercise, education, and "girl power" to promote healthy habits and self-esteem in third- through sixth-grade girls.

GOTR-Nebraska is one of 180 councils nationwide that have collectively served more than 2 million girls since its inception in 1996. An innovative, nationally standardized curriculum incorporates lessons on health, communication, teamwork, positivity, and goal-setting with physically active games to prepare girls to complete a 5K run/walk. We hope the sense of accomplishment gained by crossing the 5K finish line is the first step toward a lifetime of health and wellness. Each team is led by positive-minded, can-do coaches who want to help girls succeed. GOTR coaches undergo background checks and are trained to implement the curriculum. Coaches are the heart and soul of the program and help girls turn "I think I can" into "I KNOW I can." Girls on the Run of Nebraska has served more than 26,000 girls at 100+ sites across the state since its inception with 11 girls in Lincoln in 2003. Pre-pandemic, our council served just under 2,000 girls each year. The Central Nebraska GOTR region has served teams from Kearney, Hastings, Brady, Hershey, Merna, Broken Bow, Ord, Blue Hill, and Overton in recent years.
