We are celebrating our 47th year with our 2024-2025 season! At KCT we believe theater is an interactive art form that creates a conversation between the audience and those on stage. It not only entertains but also challenges and provokes us. It often forces us to explore thoughts and ideas that differ from our own. We leave the theater talking about what we just experienced laughing over funny moments, questioning the playwright's intention, disagreeing with the play's conclusions, and singing one of the show tunes - all of which foster a sense of community! For almost 50 years KCT has given local live theater to Kearney and south-central Nebraska - performed for the community, by the community. KCT's purpose over these years has been to provide opportunities for all members of our community to be involved - both on and off stage - in top-quality live theater. Through our annual season of main stage productions and productions by the Academy of Children's Theater, KCT involves hundreds of volunteers from around the state in productions that play to consistently enthusiastic reviews and crowded houses. Since 1990, KCT has produced an annual season of five productions, which consists of three comedy/drama plays and two musicals. Additionally, KCT's young people's theater arm, The Academy of Children's Theater (ACT), provides performing arts classes for young people ages 6 to 18. ACT presents at least two major productions each year, as well as technical and acting workshops throughout the year that educate, inspire, and nurture. KCT believes in the ability of each and every individual to make their own unique contributions to our organization and the broader community. Thus, KCT is committed to building a creative and dynamic culture that respects, supports, values, and celebrates diverse life experiences, heritages, voices, and perspectives.
