Kearney Volunteer Fire Department

About This Organization

Always Ready since 1883

Kearney Volunteer Fire Department has proudly served the City of Kearney and the Suburban Fire Protection District #1 of Buffalo and Kearney Counties since 1883.

The dedication of our volunteer firefighters enables us to respond to emergency situations with a greater number of well-trained men and women at any time of day or night.

In addition to fire protection, KVFD performs Rescue (vehicle/equipment, rope, trench, confined space, dive), HazMat, Airport Rescue, Firefighting, Color Guard, and Fire Prevention. All of this is performed by more than 60 volunteers and 13 paid staff, making KVFD the largest volunteer department in the state.

We provide fire protection and rescue services to an area of 272 square miles with a population of nearly 40,000 people.
