On June 3, 1908, the Axtell Fire Engine and Hose Company #1 was organized with the following founding members: Jim Johnson, A.G. Edlund, Frank Olson, C.A. Leafgren, Andrew Leafgren, Lawerance Pitcatley, Arthur W. Carlson, Elmer Carlson, Adolph Nystrom, and Harry Carlson.
