As you probably don't know, Rotary is focused on seven basic causes worldwide. While "Supporting Education," our primary goal is to strengthen communities in their efforts to provide basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparities in education, and improve literacy rates for all children worldwide.

With this mission in mind, 2024 marks the 20th consecutive year that Kearney Dawn Rotary will provide an individual dictionary to EVERY 3rd-grade student in Buffalo County schools. Since our program began in 2005, we have believed in the power of words and the potential of every student to succeed when equipped with the right resources. We are proud to have distributed over 13,000 dictionaries and are committed to continuing this tradition!

Inspired by the Dictionary Project's vision, we view these dictionaries as more than just books-they are gateways to becoming strong writers, enthusiastic readers, creative thinkers, and lifelong learners. Given the critical transition that the third grade represents-from "learning to read" to "reading to learn"-these dictionaries are essential companions on each child's educational path. Together, we can shape the future of young minds, preparing them for a more literate and empowered tomorrow.

Dictionaries are presented in the classroom by Kearney Dawn members, with each student receiving their own personal copy. Teachers use the dictionaries as a daily resource, strengthening every student's language skills and fostering a love of learning.
